This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach general music to over 550 students in an urban PreK-8 school. I see each general music class once a week. That's a lot of kids making music!! We also have a small band program at my school that is underfunded.
Many of our students are very excited about playing percussion instruments.
Whether they are working together in a general music class or in band, my students love to make music and love to feel the beat! Unfortunately we are unable to purchase quality instruments. Teaching in one of the poorest cities in the nations provides many challenging obstacles, especially when it comes to supplies and even more for the arts. Our students deserve a quality music education with quality instruments.
My Project
My school is in need of a gong...that very loud, circular instrument originating from Asian, often used to sound a great event. We would be able to use this percussion instrument not only in our general music classes, but also in our band program. This particular model also comes with a mallet and a stand.
Children love to bang on things.
This gong is the perfect instrument for doing just that! Your gift will help many student make music. Not only will you help the general music classes at my school, but your gift will help our band program to grow.
