My Project

Gong Hay Fat Choy! January 22, 2023, will mark the start of Chinese Lunar New Year, the Year of the Rabbit. Many of my students are not familiar with this cultural celebration. I'd like to take this opportunity to help my students explore something new as they kick off 2023.

The goal of this project is to introduce the Chinese Lunar New Year to my third graders in fun and age-appropriate ways.

We will read award-winning picture books to learn about the Chinese Lunar New Year and about its customs and traditions. We will also taste delicious Chinese snacks, including noodles that will require using chopsticks. Paper dragons and squishy dumpling toys will be our entertainment. And of course, the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration cannot be complete without the Red Money Envelopes. The Red Envelopes will be filled with Chocolate Gold Coins, which I'm sure students will gladly receive over real money.

I'm looking forward to introducing the Chinese Lunar New Year 2023 to my students in January. This is going to be a very fun and interactive project. Thank you for your interest.
