Going the Distance in Kindergarten With Virtual Learning Kits

Help me give my students individual take-home learning bags with all of the materials needed to be successful in a virtual learning environment!

My Students

I teach 30 low-income five-year-old kindergarten students at a public school in an urban school district. All of the students who attend my school receive free breakfast and lunch on a daily basis. Many of the students I work with are exposed to extreme amounts of violence, experience traumatic events, and have families who are unable to support them financially. My students lack the materials they need to be successful in the classroom, especially with our school district's tight budget.

Though a majority of students come to school without basic supplies and materials, they know that they are supported and cared for daily when they enter my classroom.

I strive to make learning engaging and meaningful to foster lifelong learners.

My students are a constant reminder of my passion for teaching young children. I spend a large amount of time planning instruction to meet each student's individual needs while creating a fun and enjoyable learning experience.

My students appreciate every donation our classroom receives, and everything that comes into our classroom is utilized to its fullest potential. The donations we receive make a tremendous, positive impact on their academic achievement. Your support of children's education ensures their future success.

My Project

Virtual learning can be a difficult task for students and families, especially when they are lacking resources needed to be successful. To help build equity among all my kindergarten students, I would like to provide my students with at-home learning kits. I want to make sure my students have the necessary materials needed to successfully participate in distance learning.

Virtual learning kits would build an interest in learning new content, keep learning fun and exciting, and provide students with hands-on learning experiences.

In the learning kits, students would have the materials needed to actively participate and learn with their peers. The card stock, laminating pouches, and page protectors would be wonderful for creating hands-on materials that students could use with the dry erase markers for every subject area.

In the kits, each student would receive a pair of headphones to help them hear while eliminating background noise so they can focus and participate. The dry erase boards would be used for practicing name writing, sight words, sentence building, writing numbers, and basic equations. The rainbow scratch paper would be used for writing sentences and sight words.

I also requested lower case letter stamps and phonics stamps for fine motor practice at home. My students love logging on every day from home, and these learning kits would help them have the educational experience they deserve.
