My Students
Being a first year teacher, I am discovering that my classroom lacks some of the basic supplies/tools that are needed for the students to be successful in creating graphic art projects.
Our high school is a large (population of 3000 students) public high school in Northern California.
Our high school is very culturally diverse and is fortunate to have multiple art classes to offer our student population. We are very fortunate to offer these programs to our students; the art classroom provides opportunities to a diverse population to succeed in school and beyond the school walls.
My Project
Currently my students create projects and use scissors to complete the finishing touches to their assignments. Unfortunately this process does not help provide the "professional" finish the students are trying to achieve. A rotary trimmer would allow students to create more precise work. This will help the students learn more about creating an idea on paper and transferring the concept into a three dimensional item (such as product packaging or a beverage label).
Having students learn to create a project with the correct tools will make all the difference in the final outcome.
By creating professional looking projects students will take pride in their studio habits and the process of learning which then builds self esteem.
