Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are extremely hardworking. They enjoy being at school and learning. Some students have moved to new cities and schools many times in their short lives. Other students have moved to our country to seek refuge from war-torn and dangerous cities around the world. Other students have special needs or have behavior patterns that do not allow them to learn at a rate comparable to their peers. Regardless of their backgrounds, they learn that my classroom is a safe, comfortable, inviting place where we celebrate differences and find out we are more similar than we might initially think.

My students have very diverse learning styles.

A small percentage of my students learn new concepts easily, without the need for extra instruction. The majority of my students need to be re-taught concepts and learn multiple methods to solving problems in order to be successful.

My Project

My school district is in the process of moving 6th grade to middle school so this will be my last year teaching 6th graders all day long! As I am closing down my classroom for the year, I am noticing that my supplies for this new class of students is dwindling!

In order for us to be able to do cooperative group projects, we need resources!

I am asking for large white boards and poster paper so that I can encourage my students to work together. There is just something special about four to five 11-12 year old students working on a project together. I love the idea of large white boards instead of always using paper. To go with the boards and poster paper, we also need markers.

A lot of my students love to do art, but my art supplies are no longer up to par! We need black sharpies and rainbow markers in order to create some masterpieces that spread beauty and positive energy through our classroom. On the days where we need to practice mindfulness, we need colors for our inspirational coloring pages.
