Going Old School with Sewing Skills!

Help me give my students awesome sewing scissors! Sewing embraces loads of cross-curricula connections (fine motor, social studies and SEL). My students have learned to sewed on buttons, darned socks, and created our own "sock baby"....:)

My Project

These sewing scissors and embroidery thread will enhance my students' craft and STEM activities that are integrated with math, science, and social studies standards. Sewing has dramatically improved my students' fine motor coordination and executive functioning skills. With emphasis on equity and access, my students embraced the importance of process and learning about the historical and cultural significance of textile arts. My students also became more proficient problem-solvers, gained more procedural understanding, and application of real-life skills.

My students loved learning different stitching techniques, sewing buttons, and darning socks, which all culminated with making our own "sock baby"!
