Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Just being in a garden and around plants has mental health benefits. Creating a calming, therapeutic garden will help students learn important life science skills such as environmentalism and community service in a hands-on way.

We need opportunities to decompress from our stressful experiences and learn about how climate, environment, and resources impact gardening possibilities.

This project will help students partake in group tasks to foster teamwork and enhance consideration for others' ideas and efforts. These activities encourage students to step outside their own experiences and consider the world from different perspectives, fostering compassion and empathy. The soil, planters, and gardening supplies will help us learn about science and compassion, while the festive soap will help us with cleanup. We will organize workshops where students teach gardening skills to others, which empowers others to grow their own food and improve their nutrition. This project not only helps students understand real-world problems but also empowers them to take concrete actions to address these issues. They will learn about food sovereignty and sustainability, while applying their gardening skills to social emotional applications. This project will focus on interacting with nature with the goal to increase self-esteem and mood, reduce anger, and improve general psychological well-being with positive effects on emotions and behavior. Students will learn about the importance of ecology, while learning effective gardening skills and focusing on awareness and social emotional learning.

Students will use the gardening supplies to demonstrate the beauty in the structures of nature.

The planters, plants, soil, and gardening supplies will be used by students to build a beautiful garden for our school that promotes social and emotional enrichment. Our world has changed so much and this garden project is designed to enhance learning, while promoting social emotional learning, healing, and community.
