My Students

I teach life science and physical science, incorporating hands-on, project-based learning in my classroom. I also incorporate technology, helping students develop 21st-century presentation skills, and promoting inclusion and equity. My classes incorporate STEM and STEAM skills for engineering.

My students are a diverse group of enthusiastic learners who enjoy applying creativity and hands-on models to their learning.

They have a wide range of creativity and come from diverse background experiences.

I incorporate technology and engineering into all subjects of my classroom, and my goal is to promote as much creative, innovative learning as possible. Many struggle with the rigorous challenges of complex learning concepts. I need additional materials to create an even greater impact on classroom learning and interventions. I want to encourage student engagement and achievement.

My students are learning technology, but I want them to learn about the engineering as well. They are studying life science and physical science, but I will have them further research sustainable forms of energy, recycling, and human impact. They will learn about innovative ways of promoting equity and sustainability in diverse communities, developing green solutions to everyday problems.

My Project

Creating a calming, therapeutic garden when students return to school will help them learn important life science skills in a hands-on way. Just being in a garden has mental health benefits. We need opportunities to decompress from our stressful experiences. We will use these gardening supplies to create a gardening oasis. We will plant and grow with the seeds and soil, while protecting them and rotating them with the containers. They will learn about food sovereignty and sustainability, while applying their gardening skills to social emotional applications. This project will focus on interacting with nature with the goal to increase self-esteem and mood, reduce anger, and improve general psychological well-being with positive effects on emotions and behavior. Students will learn about the importance of ecology, while learning effective gardening skills and focusing on awareness and social emotional learning.

Creating a garden will offer students social and emotional learning, including managing stress and promoting mindfulness.

Students will use the gardening supplies to demonstrate the beauty in the structures of nature.

The planters, plants, soil, and gardening supplies will be used by students to build a beautiful garden for our school that promotes social and emotional enrichment. Our world has changed so much and this garden project is designed to enhance learning, while promoting social emotional learning, healing, and community.
