Gone are the industrialized school days where students move from cell to cell at the sound of the factory whistle. The classroom no longer needs to be defined by four walls 'as a matter of fact, why use the term classroom at all? Our place base curriculum model is beyond the brick!
Each one of my students receives free lunch and the majority reside in the neighboring project community.
Despite the hardships that make-up their daily life, they are amazing! Creative, hardworking, eager to learn; each of them bring something different to the table. They have a thirst for knowledge that comes from their different worlds and I am bound to give it to them and expose them to new worlds! Let' s be honest: kids these days are more concerned with Twitter than they are with hearing the tweets from the birds. They Facebook more than they face books, and going green could very well mean, coloring the hair green! Through our health is wealth program, students will learn the value and importance of nutrition and healthy eating and how they can help provide that through gardening. The cross-curricular place base curriculum will serve to expose students to how and why areas are considered healthy food wastelands and what they can do to put more healthy items on their plates.

Donations to this project will not only improve the classroom, but it will improve the overall community.
Childhood obesity is too high for comfort and our students shocked me when they had informed me that they'd never had blackberries, radishes, or any type of lettuce other than iceberg! I want to change the outlook of these students and their lifestyles. Healthy eating is important, not just for health but for a holistic lifestyle that is primed for the success of the child.
