Help me give my students access to the latest and greatest graphic novels. Reading can be difficult for students with learning differences. Graphic novels are a great support to help get them excited about reading!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Reitzfeld and Mr. Rainey's classroom raised $345

My Students
We are an urban, high needs, elementary school. We have a large free-lunch population and have a large percentage of learners with special needs.
We are an ICT class with a mix of general education and special education students.
We service all of our students with the same energy and intensity, but some students require additional supports and that is what we aim to provide. We scaffold every lesson so there is an entry point for each child, and try to provide the types of physical and emotional supports so our special students can succeed.
My Project
We have readers in our 5th grade class that range in ability from 2nd grade to above grade level. Graphic novels are one way to even the reading playing field. The art provides scaffolding for the less developed reader, while the complex content can push the most advanced.
Please help us help our kids to learn to love reading.
The love of reading is one of the greatest gifts a teacher can give a student. It is a lifelong skill that enables students to not only excel academically, but to learn about the world and become a more compassionate, caring citizen.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
