Going Gaga for Gaga Ball!

My Project

Our students have recess on an extra large bare cement slab surrounded by a fence near a busy road. It is too large to easily play most games with balls because all recess is spent running to fetch the ball, or not playing cooperatively and having fun together. Gaga ball is a sport in which students play together inside a large octagon shape using a soft ball. The objective is to try and tag students with the ball below the waist, or avoid being tagged.

Gaga ball is a sport which not only helps students expend extra energy in order to be ready to learn in the classroom, but it also teaches and reinforces several critical life skills like cooperation, teamwork, and inclusivity.

Gaga ball requires cooperation and sportsmanship from all players. It also allows students to improve their agility and hand eye coordination. These same skills are necessary for learning, with and from, others in the hands-on-learning classroom settings.

Because gaga ball can be enjoyed by any student, no matter their age or abilities, inclusivity is another important skill taught and reinforced.
