Going For Gold in Fitness!

My students need Hokki stools to stay active throughout the day, and pedometers to help them track their daily fitness goals.

My Students

I teach at a charter school full of bright, energetic, curious students. My students come from diverse backgrounds and have different learning styles. For that reason, I am always looking for engaging lessons and hands-on learning activities that reach the needs and learning styles for all my students.

My students are excited about learning, explaining their thinking, sharing what they know, and experiencing the world around them.

My students work hard and play hard. No matter what we are learning about, my students fearlessly dive into learning and give it their all.

My Project

"Physical fitness is not only one of the more important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity." - John F. Kennedy. All students learn differently and thrive in various learning environments. Hokki stools will benefit ALL students because the more active they are, the better they can focus on important instruction and learning activities.

I asked my students what they would like in the classroom to help them be more active and they said they'd like to move around more in the classroom.

One student suggested that we get seats that we can balance on. They said they had another teacher with seats like that and it helped them to focus and get their wiggles out. Sometimes instruction can be boring or not as entertaining as recess. I showed my students some flexible seating options we voted as a class and the Hokki stools won the gold in our classroom survey! Allowing my students to move with Hokki Stools while they learn will help my students stay active, focus during instruction, and get 60 minutes or more of active time when they could just be sitting still.

My students noticed my fitness tracker on my wrist and asked what it was for. I told them and they thought that was the coolest thing ever. They asked if there was a way they could track their steps with their own pedometers. What a great idea! There are so many ways to incorporate those numbers into important math concepts (graphs, addition, surveys, etc.) and skills they'll need to master. I love that the data we gather will be student-driven!
