Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a Title 1 school nestled in an extremely diverse socioeconomic neighborhood in Pheonix, we instill a philosophy of hope. For many of our students, school is their safe place and a place where they are fed their only two meals of the day. Despite the hardships, our students come to school with enthusiasm and motivation to learn.
I have had the privilege of teaching most of my middle school students since they were in Kindergarten and I know when I introduce new tools and materials in the art room, their faces light up and the experience is never forgotten.
My Project
I teach around 480 students every week. I have 160 students create in my class per day. My current tools and materials have seen better days and they do their job with my elementary students, but for my middle school students, quality work is not easy to achieve and it is often frustrating for them.
Since I have taught most of my middle school students since Kindergarten, I want them to have a diverse experience in the art room with a different set of tools and materials that would amplify their ideas.
