My students need 45 children's picture and chapter books, such as "Turkeys We Have Loved and Eaten" and "I Am the Turkey" to read during small group time.
My students want to "Gobble, Wobble" up books by reading to improve literacy. In order to do this, my classroom library needs an upgrade! The books have become worn out and used from my students who have enjoyed reading them. Help put books in the hands of my students!
I teach in a Title 1 Elementary School with 675 kindergarten through fifth grade students in a highly transient, urban community.
The average student to teacher ratio is 20:1. My class consists of 18 students in Grade 3, ages 9 and 10. The environment is a general education classroom where students receive daily instruction in all core subject areas (English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Technology). The students' academic and developmental abilities are very diverse.
My Project
By adding this collection of books to our classroom, my students will have books to read in small groups and independently. The books are at different levels to allow me to differentiate instruction in the class. Students will be able to practice reading frequently and improve their literacy. We will work on skills to improve comprehension and increase our vocabulary. The books selected are engaging and age appropriate. I will be able to plan thematic activities related to the month of November such as writing, fine motor projects, collaboration with other classes, and book packs for independent reading.
This project will allow my students to have access to books for reading independently, with a partner, and small groups.
Your donation will help put books in the hands of students which will improve literacy. Students will grow as readers and be prepared for a successful future.
