it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
So many children are growing up in households with plenty of electronics but no books.
My 30 Kindergarteners live in a region that is within 5 miles from the international border with Mexico.
Not only are they facing the crucial challenge of learning how to read, many of them also are learning a second language, English. This makes having the right resources crucial in their academic development of literacy.
My Project
Dr. Seuss beginner books have inspired generations of children to want to pick up a book and read. My students are just starting off on that journey and to do so with their families' help would greatly increase their success at becoming lifelong readers. The book I selected includes six wonderful easy to read titles that I would like to lend to children to take home to read with their parents. Doing so would not only benefit my current students but future ones as well, as younger siblings in the same household could happily be part of family storytime as well.
Coming from a economically challenged family, my own life was transformed by a love of reading that inspired me to choose a profession where I could touch the future.
Please help us fill our bookcase with the books that will enrich families and change lives. Thank you so much!
