I currently teach 4th grade science and math to a group of talented individual learners. It has been exciting to have learners eager to share their work with others. I enjoy having children learn from each other and being enthusiastic about the district’s “green day” activities and hands-on learning. Each year the town takes part in arranging a given day for each trimester as going green. This means teachers are to teach the normal subjects without using paper and finding interesting ways to inform and encourage students to think about being green.
Many students come to school dressed in green to show their support for the day ahead. This requires much planning and it also helps to have hands-on activities and materials to make student learning fun. There are many basic tips for students to follow to be successful in making the environment a greener place to live in. This can begin in the school and carry on into the community. As a result, I have asked for 2 iPod nano’s to aid in the fundamentals of going green, cow magnets to explore the environment around us which will be especially important with our study of magnets, collage pots for planting, and window crayons to show the community and families what we have done to make the earth a better place through collage techniques. I see so many great deeds going on that many of the students’ families and the community is unable to see the happenings. If my students were able to share the changes that they together are making, the knowledge will only be spread and encouraged upon to others!
The goal of this challenge is to raise students’ awareness regarding issues that challenge our Earth’s environment. The use of the materials will bring my classroom and students to life. The motivation to learn about science, conservation, and teamwork will be necessary for success. I know that you will make a difference in the lives of my students who want to learn.
Your help will make it possible for all learners to enjoy going green. With your help, students will build a sense of community together in and outside of the classroom. Although there is only one teacher per class, students will be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas to help one another. Your donations will be especially helpful when we are making the environment a better place for the future generations because it needs to start somewhere.
