My project needs 10 packs of 8 color dry erase markers, 35-40 student dry erase boards, and one pack of dry erase wipes.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Ginn's classroom raised $324
This project is fully funded
I work at a large, urban elementary school in an open-space setting. While I am the primary instructor for a group of 31 fifth graders, we are in a room that contains five other classroom spaces and nearly 200 students. At times, I am really competing for their attention! Keeping the instruction focused, engaging and varied is a primary focus.
This simple twist on pencil and paper practice is an amazing motivator. When it comes time to take a math quiz, or do a "quick write" response to literature, I demand that they save a tree and simply write on the desk! These instructions are met with cheers.
All that is needed to transform a mundane activity into a magical one is a colorful dry erase marker for each student. The students love to work out problems and express their thoughts when they can write on their desks.
Anxiety and mistakes can be easily erased with a tissue, as I circulate the room to provide instant feedback to students. I can write comments or help rework a problem on the large workspace. This method is also a great way for me to quickly assess students' needs on a regular basis. Students laugh when I tell them that I will "grade their desks."
A portable dry erase board for each learner will enable us to make our learning activities more flexible. Groups of students, with their small dry erase boards and markers, can work together independently, or with the teacher, anywhere in the room.
Your donation will make a daily difference in the way that I teach. Students love to write on dry erase boards, and they jump for joy when told to write on their desks! These simple tools will motivate the reluctant writer or un-confident mathematician to stay in the game and take a chance.
"Go ahead, write on your desk!" These words will surely capture their attention and get them calculating!
