This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students with autism are attending school for the first time in a newly opened Flexroom! This space is designed for students who struggle with self-regulation in the general education setting. My students are working hard to independently regulate their emotions and de-escalate but like any student they need the right tools, so we're requesting a mini trampoline.
Trampolines are a noted platform to progress the sensory, motor, and educational skills of autistic children.
Along with helping them understand their sensory needs and how to self-regulate, jumping on a trampoline will help them acquire new motor skills. It will help improve motor skills and build stamina. Additionally, it will improve play skills amongst each other with turn-taking and parallel play. A mini trampoline will help give my students the much-needed sensory input their little bodies need and allow them to be ready to learn!
