GMS Presents Disney' Beauty and the Beast, Jr.

Help me give my students outfits for their upcoming Musical Theater production! Over the past few days, students were a key factor in identifying characters that needed to stand out from the rest.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school where the majority of our students are bussed in from various surrounding cities. Some students spend over an hour in a bus, just to come to class. They come from all ethnicities and cultures as well as financial backgrounds.

They come into class never really knowing what is going to happen, looking for a safe place and someone that they can talk to without judgement.

Our students are eager to learn and participate in activities that are exciting and different. They are exposed to other cultures and learn about acceptance. Through the Music Program, they learn how teamwork works and cooperate with students from various grade levels.

My Project

GMS is a Title 1 school that has very little funding outside of donations and grants. Winning this grant was a huge opportunity for them to be able to visualize how they were going to make a performance come to life. Through costumes, scenery, and props, they were key in giving details and identifying importan characters that should be recognized from a crowd. Previous projects covered 95% of the cast.

These are characters that the students noticed were left out of previous orders!

We were lucky enough to be able to cover the cost for the majority of the characters, unfortunately funds ran out as these characters were identified. Donations would go directly to make sure that the students who portray these characters in their play have equal representation amongst the other key characters.
