Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school where the majority of our students are bussed in from various surrounding cities. Some students spend over an hour in a bus, just to come to class. They come from all ethnicities and cultures as well as financial backgrounds.

They come into class never really knowing what is going to happen, looking for a safe place and someone that they can talk to without judgement.

Our students are eager to learn and participate in activities that are exciting and different. They are exposed to other cultures and learn about acceptance. Through the Music Program, they learn how teamwork works and cooperate with students from various grade levels.

My Project

GMS is a Title I school that has just started to build up a Musical Theater Department. Unfortunately, there is no funding for the curriculum, performances, music, etc.

Imagine that you are taking a trip to someplace that you have never been before.

These materials will allow students to decorate the stage and surrounding areas, to give the audience a feel of where the story is taking place. Items included will also allow students the chance to create their character - through the use of stage makeup, props, and costume items.
