Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a culturally diverse group of kids. They come from low-income households and receive free breakfast and lunch. They also participate in the backpack program which sends a bag of food home for them on the weekends. Most students are English Language Learners, who do not have a great command of there native language and are trying to learn a a new that structured much differently form their own. I have student's whose parents need to work several job's or keep odd hours so they are rasing their siblings or they are being raised by a sibling. My students are pulled out of there classrooms to receive extra support in the areas of reading, math, and writing because they struggle in these areas and have been identified as having a learning disability. They also struggle with keeping focused, ans staying on task. My kids are all very energetic and capable of making growth they just need some extra support in a smaller setting. I want all of the kids that come in my room to have the opportunity to realize and reach their maximum potential.

My Project

This year, I am the Positive Behavior Intervention Support Chair. We want to throw a glow party for our second quarter incentive. At the end of every quarter, we celebrate students behavior by allowing them to use the points (DOJO Points) that they earn daily for good behavior to purchase a ticket to attend the quarterly incentive. For the second quarter we want to throw them a glow party in the school gym and we need some supplies to pull that off.

Students look forward to the incentives at the end of the quarter and are really excited about this one.

The incentives help motivate them to do what they need to do when they come to school, in order to earn the points that they need to purchase the incentive ticket as it increases as the year moves on. We really want to make this event a huge success so that our students will enjoy themselves.
