Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am so fortunate to work in a school that supports the academic, social, emotional and vocational adaptation of skills for individuals who are on the Autism spectrum. Our students each bring to the classroom a wide array of incredible skills and needs that span the entire spectrum. They amaze me every single day with their ability to adapt to an ever changing world but also remain their true selves for the whole world to see without any apologizing. They show love and laughter in ways every day that we celebrate and seek to spread out into the community. They yearn for inclusion and acceptance into the broader world and I love the opportunity I have to help them successfully bring the world to them.
My Project
The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and the whiteboards slowly become stained from frequent use. Teaching math, social studies, ELA and social skills, there are many papers that accompany the whiteboard work and colored pocket folders help fill organizational needs for our students who have Autism.
By donating to our project, you will help provide students with basic needs for achieving greater academic achievement as well as remain focused in a healthier and more germ-free environment.
Students will be able to focus better on the academic tasks at hand while knowing that it’s ok to make mistakes and take greater academic risks knowing that their basic material needs are met.
