My students need 6 Ocean Globes for group labs studying oceanography.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Stephan's classroom raised $507
This project is fully funded
I am a seventh and eighth grade science teacher at Avon Park Middle School in Avon Park, Florida.
I love having students do hands on learning and group labs. However, I am in an old art room with very little science equipment. Much of our science equipment was lost when the three hurricanes hit us in 2004.
To help student learning in oceanography, I feel it is very worthwhile to have the students do a oceanography lab using ocean globes. Students study ocean topographic features, plats of the earth's crust, locations of earthquake activity and possible tsunamis. In the past there have been major earthquakes and a killer tsunami in the Indonesia area and in Peru.
Students also study major ocean currents, such as the Gulf Stream. Since we live in Florida, this is very applicable. The Gulf Stream is right off our east coast. It has a direct effect on our Florida weather.
This lab with help students meet the requirements for the State Sunshine Standards in Science and prepare them for the Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test.
Students do not get an opportunity to study the oceans at middle school level. By your helping us, my students can gain an interest in this unique area of science. The oceans are indeed the last unexplored frontier.
