My project needs media of "World Habitats" and another resource such as "Global Warming and the Greenhouse Effect" to effectively support our classroom exploration of third grade science curriculum such as deserts of the world, the rainforest, and the ocean and, ultimately, the effects of global warming.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I cannot imagine living in Southern California and never having experienced the beach during my childhood. But such is the case with many students whom I teach. I currently teach third graders at Cahuenga Elementary school in the heart of Korea Town, minutes away from downtown. I spend a great deal of time trying to create a habitat in my classroom to launch a theme that will be used across the curriculum. Unfortunately, my endeavors are limited in that I am a roving teacher in a year round school. I do my best to support our learning through more traditional resources such as books, field trips when possible, but I feel that the impact of global warming is not tangible to our current students. In June a student shared with me that he had never been to the beach after we had a discussion about pollution and its impact on marine animals, and I realized that I needed to do more to connect textbook learning to the sobering reality of global warming, especially for my urban students who have a very limited experience of anything outside their immediate environments. This information on world habitats will help support my classroom habitat and the other resource on global warming will emphasize the need to care for our beautiful earth. With these resources I can further build my habitat curricula and make important connections throughout the year in a more meaningful manner.
