My students need copies of the Global Read Aloud books so they they can participate in reading and technology based activities that will connect them with classrooms world-wide.
My second grade students are creative, active, and diverse learners from a variety of backgrounds. All of my students, despite their backgrounds, are sponges for learning new things. Reading is an important part of the day for my 23 students. My students enjoy the Reader's Workshop time of day and when they are able to read with a partner or alone.
This year I would like for my students' reading to connect us to the country and world as we participate in the Global Read Aloud.
My Project
I have requested books that I will read to my students over the 6-week Global Read Aloud project. Through this project my students will make connections and comparisons to Lauren Castillo's illustrations in each book. My students will also practice making their own illustrations using her style. Finally, we will also connect with students world-wide who are reading the same book. Connecting to other students world-wide will allow my students the opportunity to learn about other cultures and parts of not only our great country, but also our vast world.
By making global connection through book chats my students will become more globally sensitive and tolerant.
