My Students
Remember when you knew or wanted to know what a Spanish speaker said? Imagine high school students in Mississippi with the same hopes and desires.
"I want to attend Harvard" and "I want to stay in the state," my students mentioned when I ask what they want to do after high school.
My students definitely hold a wide plethora of goals, and the more Spanish they learn, the more confident they feel using the language. Students currently ask me what many Spanish words mean, and I want to partner with them to ensure they can speak fluidly by the end of the year.
My students attend a high need, rural, mostly African American school in Mississippi. Typically, they have few opportunities to travel and learn about new cultures. I give them the skills and tools necessary to learn about Hispanic culture. We have already learned at least three hundred Spanish vocabulary words comprehensibly, and students yearn to remember the language.
My Project
The more my students learn Spanish and about Spanish-speaking countries, the more they want to travel abroad. They will succeed in life if they learn to love learning. By providing flashcards to learn Spanish, you will equip my students to take ownership of their learning and their global citizenship.
My students need index cards to create flashcards and begin to master Spanish. Students will create the flashcards for every Spanish word we learned, to review Spanish vocabulary we learned recently. The daily review equips themselves with skills to excel academically. The process and practice of making and using flashcards will teach my students humility, perseverance, and grit that they can use daily later in life.
I feel extremely grateful that my high school students want to learn more Spanish. Learning Spanish is one important step among many to global citizenship. Please partner with me to give my students the necessary resources to cultivate my students' love for learning.
The flashcards will make a difference in students' lives because learning Spanish exceptionally well will equip my students with the necessary skills and tools to create change within the local community.
Specifically, students will cultivate relationships over racial and cultural boundaries, and will understand their neighbors better.
