We need to get with the program! We are in the 21st century and the most technology my students have been exposed to is a desktop computer. The classrooms each have only 1 desktop from 2006 and it often freezes during instruction.
I teach in a Title I school in an urban area.
Most of the students come from underprivileged families and single family homes. A majority of the students are on free and reduced lunch and lack many of their everyday needs. I have done my best to provide for these students, but there is only so much I can do as an individual. I love all of my students, and I want to expose them to every little thing possible because I know they may never get the experiences I would love for them to all have.
My Project
My vision is to expose my students to schools around the world. We have been discussing different parts of the world and what their schools may be like. My students have been inquiring about what these students and areas are like. I have been in contact with a few schools and we think video pen pals would be a great way to incorporate technology and global awareness in the classroom. I have expressed the idea to my students and they have expressed to me that they would love to do this. Since discussing this idea with my class they have asked at least 2 times a day when they will be able to actually see their pen pal on video.
Technology is imperative in classrooms today.
There has been a lack of global awareness and as the children are growing up in the world today it has been noticed that they have little understanding about the events that are occurring around the world. With a Flip Cam my students will be able to learn about children and schools around the world and not just by reading about them. They will be able to view videos to compare and contrast other children and schools around the world.
