This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a Title I school in Richmond with over 80% of our student population from low-income households. My students come from a variety of cultures, and a good number of my students are not native English speakers. This can sometimes create barriers to traditional and conventional teaching. Despite the challenges they face, they are still energetic, fun-loving, and eager to learn.
Our families are the glue that keeps our school together.
I am the ambassador of their education and want to make sure they have fond memories as they grow.
My Project
A few months ago, I was fortunate to be funded a Cricut Explorer. With this device, I am able to make all types of things. My favorite are decals. As I was thinking about ways to use it, I came up with having our students, with adult support, to create glittered tumblers. Not only are they practical but the uniqueness of them will be fun to watch.
These tumblers will be one of a kind and watching the student create them will bring so much joy!
With these supplies, our students will be able hand make an item that will last a lifetime. It will also serve as a constant reminder of their time in elementary school.
