September is right around the corner and with these challenging times working remotely will most likely happen. Students in my school are imaginative and fun-loving kids. They come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their small community.
Many of my students don't have the ability to learn online.
Many depend on worksheet packets and whatever books they have at home. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are eager learners.
My Project
The year started with my students working incredibly hard and then schools were closed in March but my students were still using the assignments that I have given them with Google Classroom, YouTube, and Audible Stories. However, my learners would benefit greatly from me having a laptop with sound and video capabilities to record video messages, reading passages, and lessons for them.
This project will provide a laptop and microphone, so that I can use these amazing tools to assist my students with their remote learning experiences.
When we return to school, my English Language Learner (ELL) students will benefit immensely by having a laptop in our classroom that is dedicated for audiobooks, read-aloud assistance, and translation services.
No pandemic will stop me from helping my students learn the skills they need to be successful in life. My class were learning how to read, write, and do simple addition and subtraction before school closures. Now my living room is my classroom. Therefore, it is very important that I have the resources to help them grasp the concepts and skills they need to succeed in the next school year.
