Glitch-Master No More!

Help me give my students glitch-free online lessons and access to a technological world other than through a Chromebook!

My Students

Have you ever heard of the Glitch-Master? Can you take a guess as to what that might be? That is my newly acquired CoVID-19 teacher name. I have turned into the Glitch-Master while teaching my students virtually. With 100% accuracy, I know that during online lessons I will lag or glitch. When trying to teach a lesson to students virtually and it keep cutting out, that becomes very frustrating to students and interrupts their learning and attention spans.

Even though I continue to face technical problems, my students continue to show up and shine.

They are so empathetic to the situation we are all in and the come with their best attitudes and ready to work. These students are finishing up middle school and about to enter into high school. Can you imagine having a quarantine happen when you were in middle school and your biggest care in the world was hanging out with your friends? They have faced a lot of adversity and have handled it like pure champs.

I have a school-issued Chromebook that is 3 years old and the capabilities of the computer are limited.

My Project

As a teacher, I am issued a Chromebook to facilitate learning in the classroom. Chromebooks are a great resource for getting the job done, but there are a lot of drawbacks to them being your primary computer. So much so that my students cannot believe it is my only computer. I was issued my Chromebook upon hiring 3 years ago. Technology is moving so fast that eventually, they are outdated and barely useable. Out of my entire team, I am the only one that uses the school-issued Chromebook. Everyone else just uses it as a backup computer in their classroom.

As a society, we are limited by and to the resources that we have access to.

There is not a day that goes by that I do not want to go to Costco or Best Buy and purchase my own laptop, but as teachers, we already spend so much of our own money on our classrooms. I haven't gone because I know I can "deal" with the Chromebook, and I shouldn't spend the money. However, having a computer on which I can save files, create PDFs easily, and make the curriculum seems very appealing.

A part of me feels very selfish asking for this donation, but another part of me realizes that as a teacher I am primarily using my computer for work. Engineers and architects are likely not using Chromebooks. Creating lessons, projecting lessons, grading student work, email communications, professional development activities, you name it and it is done on a computer. Having a device that makes my job easier and can participate in applications not just allowed by Google will make our classroom community that much better. Please help make my classroom technology dreams come true!
