My students need glass beakers to do authentic experiments as laboratory scientists.
FULLY FUNDED! Mx. Martin's classroom raised $525
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are strivers: cognitively sharp, intellectually curious, and extremely hard working.
Our school is the most ethnically diverse of all New York City's specialized public high schools, and 67% of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunch.
We are an International Baccalaureate school: all of our juniors and seniors are enrolled in this rigorous, college-level program. We consistently rank among the top ten public high schools in New York State (#3 in 2016)! Still, we struggle with the limitations of a public school budget.
My Project
Glassware inevitably breaks, and our school budget has not allowed for replacement of lab equipment.
Glass beakers are needed for nearly every biology and chemistry experiment: they're used to measure, mix, and pour.
As IB diploma candidates, my students are asked to complete two original, long-term investigations in biology. In their junior year, they do this small groups, and by senior year, they're expected to individually and independently design, carry out, and analyze a research project. Having the supplies they need to carry out these investigations will give our students to opportunity to develop real, applicable lab skills and experience science!
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
