This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Did you ever want to be a movie star? I would love to give my students the opportunity to feel like a movie star while simultaneously validating their learning! I teach Kindergarten at a Title 1 school. Most students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and economically, our school is also struggling.
Kindergarten is the beginning of a child's educational journey.
The ideal form of learning at this level is active, constructive, and hands-on. Oftentimes, creative teaching and hands-on classroom experiences get passed over due to the sheer cost of their implementation. Incorporating technology into the classroom is one such obstacle because of the cost involved. Technology is a powerful tool in the classroom because it can help to motivate and to engage students in ways that other educational materials cannot. Pocket video cameras are quick and easy to operate and so they can easily be used by young students. My students love to perform in front of their peers--whether it is to read, to act out a story, or to demonstrate a concept. Kids love and ask to use technology in the classroom. Therefore, I am requesting a pocket video camera and camera supplies for students to use to creatively express their academic knowledge.
My Project
The pocket video camera will be used by students to enhance academic learning while giving students the opportunity to use their imagination. Some of the ways students will use the pocket video camera include, but are not limited to: singing, digital storytelling, acting out stories, recording puppet shows, narrating field trips, capturing science experiments, sharing student writing, creating movie-trailer "bookcasts," creating "how-to" videos, recording interviews, recording students reading, and recording lessons/activities for absent students. Ultimately, using a pocket video camera enhances learning because students must first internalize information and think critically about a topic and/or idea before they are able to record it. Additionally, other students benefit and learn from watching their peers. This makes the pocket video camera a very powerful and useful academic tool in the classroom.
You can help my students use technology to become better learners!
Your donation will ensure that my students are maximizing their potential in a fun and interactive way. Anything donated would be greatly appreciated, welcomed, and put to use by a class-full of eager learners! Without your support, this project is not possible. Will you please help our classroom?
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
