My Project
In my K–5 special education classroom, many of my students thrive when given the opportunity to express themselves in creative and nontraditional ways. For several of my students, especially those with autism, verbal communication is not always their preferred or accessible method. Instead, they engage with the world through technology—specifically, an iPad.
This project will help fund an iPad to serve as a critical learning, communication, and emotional support tool in our classroom.
With the iPad, students will be able to use speech-generating apps, create visual stories, access interactive academic tools, and participate in classroom activities in a way that aligns with their strengths and needs.
In addition to academic support, this device will also play an important role in supporting students’ mental health. Many of my students experience challenges with emotional regulation, anxiety, and frustration, especially when they cannot express themselves. The iPad will provide calming apps, visual schedules, and personalized tools that help students feel more secure, supported, and in control of their emotions throughout the school day.
Having this technology available will empower my students to feel heard, understood, and emotionally safe. Your support will help give a voice to those who need it most and open new doors for learning, communication, and well-being in our classroom.
