My Project

I am an Autistic Support Special Education Teacher of a public school in Philadelphia, and my students are some of the greatest teenagers that I know. My students require a functional curriculum focused on academics, communication, community, domestic, and vocational skills. This means that my job is to help prepare my students for life outside and high school. We work on these needed skills through various ways including but not limited to cooking/baking, doing community-based instruction trips, working closely with other classes, and building skills through hands on materials. Even though my students experience economic struggles and academic barriers, they come to school every day and work their hardest in our room! Our school is a school that provides 100% free breakfast and lunch just to give you an idea of the poverty level they come from.

Please help me to provide some of the things to assist providing them with a little more independence.

Your donations will go towards three main things. The first item is the speakers. These will be used to help us regulate the volume on our Smart Board. By being able to regulate the volume better, students can choose to sit through out the room using our flexible seating more. While our Smart Board is a wonderful tool, it isn't always loud enough to hear through out the whole room. These speakers will help us increase the volume. Speaking of using our flexible seating, earlier this year I was able to get one swing chair for my classroom. This has become the coveted seat among the flexible seating. Your donations would allow me to add in an additional two swing chairs for students to use and rotate the use of. Finally your donations will allow me to provide student safe knives for our cooking lessons.
