My Students
I teach 2nd grade at a small, suburban school in Washington.
My school is designated as a high-poverty school, with many students receiving free or reduced-priced meals because of their socioeconomic situation.
If you were to come visit, however, you would never know that. You would see students who love learning and want to do their very best. My classroom of 7- and 8-year-olds is always made up students who have a wide variety of abilities, interests, and challenges. This includes learning support students, English language learners, and academically gifted students. I am here to teach them all and give them the best education!
My Project
I want to transform my classroom this year! I want to do away with traditional tables, chairs and assigned seating and create a classroom environment that is more relaxed, comfortable, and efficient for my students.
Students will have the power to choose their own places to sit every single day.
Those places can change from day to day, or even from minute to minute. I want to provide multiple seating areas throughout my classroom. With the Big Joe Dorm Chairs requested in this project, I can create one of those seating areas. My vision is for my classroom to be more like a cafe setting. It will be a place where students can group together flexibly and naturally to collaborate on class work and projects, much like adults do in the "real" world!
