Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Ourstudents are prechoolers with exceptional needs. Our kiddos are curious and playful but have difficulty regulating their bodies and organizing their actions. They do best with hands-on activities in our classrooms to help them learn these missing skills.
This year, our school is implementing a science based curriculum called Conscious Discipline, this curriculum focuses on different brain states and how to develop social emotional skills and self regulation as a tool to navigate behaviors and classroom management.
To do this we are requesting materials for our 20 teachers to make calming tools for each of their classrooms. To practice breathing we will make breathing wands with the pinwheels and flowers. To provide sensory input we will be making flexing mats with the exercise bands and the care bears will become weighted stuffed animals. The pocket charts will be used to organize and display these calming activities in centers in all of the classrooms on campus.
