Giving Students an Experience So History Does Not Repeat Itself

Help me give my students a trip to the Holocaust Memorial Center.

My Students

I teach 158 exceptional students. These are 7th graders, ranging in age from 11-13. The students that are going on this trip are my Advanced ELA students (a total of 74). My students are extremely motivated to learn and love being my "guinea pigs." My students often come from low-income situations where technology may not be readily available.

My students are an amazing group of people that are ready and willing to be successful.

These kids show up every day and are prepared to be the best versions of themselves. They challenge me to be a better teacher every day.

My Project

My students will be going on a docent led tour at the Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan where they will learn all about that history changing time period. After the tour, we end by having the privilege to hear a survivor speak.

Without your help, my students will not be able to have this life changing experience.

The entire school year, my students learn about the 1940's, specifically World War II and the Holocaust. This trip ends the year in a way that allows students to truly comprehend what occurred during that time. All my past students said that this trip is the best thing about their 7th grade experience.

After returning to school, my students will complete research about someone that inspired them during the Holocaust. They will then write a poem about this person/group/organization in order to honor them. These poems are included in the thank you packages we send to our donors who request them along with personally written thank yous from my kids.
