Giving Children Access to Basic Resources Leads to Success
Help me give my students a smooth and welcome transition back to school since Covid began in March of 2020. These basics will get their year off to a great start and make the students feel special.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an Integrated Co-Teaching Classroom made up of students from Bangladesh, Africa, South, and Central American Countries. Our students have a variety of needs and benefit most from visual, tactile, and auditory learning. They are also English Language Learners. When children have opportunities daily to hear rich language, practice using language, and have others around them to do it with, they CAN develop a stronger vocabulary. This helps in all areas of their lives; academically and socially. These skills are what many students struggle with due to their classifications.
Ensuring equitable access for all students require resources to support their learning to ensure growth and success.
Unfortunately, the basic resources that were once available from the school are no longer being distributed. It seems that basics are not even available; like paper and markers and materials to explore and create. Our students come from extremely low socio-economic backgrounds, therefore asking parents to supply the classroom would seem unfair. Please help us get our year off to a great start.
My Project
Some of our children are back in school for the first time since March of 2020. They have not had access to markers, crayons, playdough, and other basic necessities that kids crave and love engaging with when they return to a new school year. Given the hardships many families in our community have endured, our school opted to not ask for supplies. Teachers' funds are pretty limited and we have already used our "Teachers Choice" money for the year. Having some fresh new markers, and supplies to use would make the students feel special and give them something to look forward to daily. Unfortunately, with Covid, we are not able to get up and move about the room the way we used to and the children are often sitting. Having some beautiful new supplies would really excite them and keep them engaged.
