My Project

My fourth grade students have been hard at work using their creativity and math skills to design a "Mathematics Café"—complete with custom menus and word problems they created and solved themselves. Now, they’re dreaming even bigger. Inspired by the Allstate Foundation and TIME for Kids’ Service Stars missions, my students want to turn their classroom project into a real cafe and bake sale, raising money to support a charity. We’ve learned about the amazing work St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does, and we want to help make a difference in the lives of those brave kids who are battling cancer. We are hoping our Cafe Bake Sale will raise funds to do that. We want to attract students with an array of tasty treats such as cake pops, as well as luring in caffeine-fueled teachers with delicious espresso. This is all with our goal in mind to raise as much money as possible for St. Jude's.
