Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students consist of general education and English language learners. The school has a high migrant and low economic population. The majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch making us a Title I school.

Some of my students' parents try to help them at home but have a hard time due to either language or academic barriers.

From the minute they walk into my classroom, I focus on their potential, growth, and academic excellence. My students are eager to come to school, for knowledge and love. They love to read, create, and explore the world around us. We are a part of a school that supports the success of each of its students and works to build a community of lifelong learners.

My Project

My students are enjoying the technology in the classroom, we were lucky to get 4 tablets and 2 laptops. As we began the year learning how to use the technology to learn, it is becoming an essential tool in my classroom. Now it is difficult to say no to my kids when they want to use the laptops and tablets, but we do not have enough for each of them to use individually. At this time there are about 3-4 kids per device at the same time. One of my kids actually asked if it was possible for me to get more tablets. I finally gave in and decided to do another project to get more tablets and laptops. During reading time they are using apps that help them practice letters, sounds, words, reading books, and much more. During math time they are using apps that help them practice shapes, months, days, numbers, addition, subtraction, and much more.

These kids are so curious about the world around them, that the technology helps them explore and learn even more!

With this project, my students will be able to do so much more. My kids are learning English, they are coming from low income households, access to this technology motivates them to come to school to learn with tools they do not have at home.
