This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Thanks to many generous donors, we have a problem! Over the past couple of months, my students have been the lucky recipients of donated math and vocabulary journals. These materials, in addition to other notebooks and folders, are taking over our student tables that lack storage compartments!
I am fortunate to work with 30 excited, intelligent first graders.
Our school is located in an impoverished urban community. All of my students receive free lunch, and most are English Language Learners for whom Spanish is the first language. Many schools and families are facing financial difficulties, and our school community is no exception. Despite the challenges of the economy and violent neighborhood, my students come into the classroom eager to learn each day.
My Project
My students work in table groups, which enables them to work with one another. I love having these cooperative groups, but there's one problem: Our tables do not have storage space! Each child uses several notebooks or journals daily, but there is not a good place to keep these materials that is neat, organized, and easily accessible.
To address this problem, I am requesting four All-Purpose Teacher's Organizers. This organizer is a wire rack with five different colored plastic bins. Each journal or folder will be assigned to a bin - vocabulary journals in the red bin, math problem solving journals in the yellow bin, and so on. Each table will have their own organizer, which will put all necessary materials at students' fingertips. Students will also learn crucial organizational skills, and our treasured journals will be kept in good condition throughout the remainder of the school year.
It may sound basic, but these organizers will do wonders for our classroom.
Students will be organized, coveted materials will be kept in pristine condition, and all journals and folders will be within an arm's reach, saving precious instructional time. These organizers will help make learning easier for all of my students. Thank you for your support!
