Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a high poverty low-income city. They come from all over the city of Bridgeport and all receive free breakfast, lunch and a snack.
My students all have special needs, with the majority being on the autism spectrum. This year I have 10 students in the Kindergarten and 1st grade.
The majority of the students are transitioning from a 1/2 day pre-school program into a full-day Kindergarten program at a new school. Transitioning into a new larger school on top of having autism can be overwhelming and make it a very difficult transition.
My goal in working with these students is to make this transition as smooth as possible, assist them in building friendships, engage in learning, and motivate them to come to school daily ready to learn!
My Project
Every child deserves a new book to look through and listen to. My students love to listen to books and they sure love a new book. I will use these books to read during morning meeting while the students are on the carper.
My students will be able to look at the pictures while answering questions by pointing to those pictures.
I will also use these books during lessons and during individual reading sessions with different students. Each student will have the opportunity to choose a book that interests them.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
