This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school with a large population of English as a new language students. My class is very unique. It is an integrated collaborative class with many children who have needs that need to be met. Some behavioral, some physical, some have speech and language barriers and some just need a lot of love.
The students in my class are curious and enthusiastic learners.
They are unique individuals who have a great deal to offer their classroom community. As their teacher, I want to inspire them to love learning and empower them to engage in their learning. It is difficult to provide a classroom full of opportunities when supplies are scarce. Unfortunately, most of my students' families live below the poverty level. It is difficult for their families to provide them with what most would consider basic learning tools.
These students come to school each day eager to learn and ready to cooperate with their peers. Learning to read is imperative and will open these children to a world of opportunities. Their families try their best to provide some exposure to books. It is difficult for most of these children to get to the library.
My Project
My students need new and interesting books to read and grow with. Our library is very small for the lower level books. Students grow as readers but reading a large volume of books on different topics.
Your gifts of books will help my students to grow and might just be that spark that lights the fire of a life-long reader.
My students love to read new and interesting books. They are trying so hard to grow as readers. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. Their eyes light up every time it is reading time. But not having enough books on their levels is a daily struggle.
