My Project

Imagine a classroom where students summit snow capped peaks at sunrise, swim above pristine coral reefs, share their experiences around a campfire, and fall asleep under the milky way. With your help, students at West Hawaii Explorations Academy will be able to do exactly that.

This year at WHEA, 8th grade students will participate in a year-long quest that inspires and empowers them to discover how to become passionate and responsible stewards of themselves and their place through transformative challenge, adventure, and outdoor experiences.

This quest will involve 11 overnight camping trips and countless day trips on the Big Island of Hawaii. We, the teachers creating this program, firmly believe that students learn best by actively participating in meaningful experiences. What better way to learn about volcanoes than backpacking through volcano national park? What better way to learn about rain-forest ecosystems than camping beneath the canopy of one? What better way to learn about the hero's journey than having and sharing one's own adventures?

Help these students have the experience of a lifetime, and stay warm and comfortable in the process, by helping us purchase sleeping bags and sleeping pads. These items will be well loved, taken care of, and reused by this program for many years to come so that hundreds of students will be positively impacted by your support. Thank you so much for your investment in these students. Getting kids outside is more important now than ever.
