Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What better gift can you give a child than to teach that child to read? Once a child has learned to read, that child can then read to learn about everything else. Please help me give my Kindergarten students the gift of reading.
Kindergarteners are 5 years old, and they learn best with hands-on activities. If they can see it, hear it, and touch it, they will remember what they have learned.
For these reasons I am requesting the Lakeshore Language Instant Learning Centers-Set Two. This set was designed to encourage children to practice important reading skills in a fun, non-threatening way. The kit includes materials such as activity mats, letter tiles, sorting trays, picture cards, and word tiles for hands-on experiences. Students will be able to practice important reading skills such as counting syllables, sorting and switching letter sounds, finding word patterns, learning sight words and developing sentences. The kit comes with simple picture instructions that are easy for young children to follow.
With the Lakeshore Language Instant Learning Centers kit, students will be able to work at their own pace. Slower learners will have that extra practice they need to catch up to their peers. English learners will have pictures to help them better understand what they are learning. Advanced learners will be challenged to go beyond the basics.
The materials will be shared by two classrooms. The students include both English and non-English speakers, as well as students with disabilities. My school, Germain St. Elementary school, is a multi-cultural, public school set in the San Fernando Valley. Because the materials are well made, they will be used by hundreds of students in the years to come.
When you give the gift of reading, you give the gift of learning. Practicing reading skills with Lakeshore Language Instant Learning Centers will be a fun, effective way for my students to become stronger readers. Please help me acquire this wonderful set for the children!
