Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from South Central, Los Angeles. 98% of the class are first-generation Latino students and 2% African American. Many of my students are bilingual with their first language being Spanish. More than half of the students are struggling readers and all are on free/reduced lunch. In a school where high school dropout rates are high and graduation is low, my class is full with students that have chosen to challenge themselves, earning their seats in the Advanced Placement United States Government and Politics class.

They are intelligent, resilient, and hardworking.

Although my students are dedicated, they are definitely receiving "the short end of the stick” when it comes to preparing for the AP Government and Politics exam compared to other schools. Our school lacks the adequate resources to support students in AP exams. We have outdated books and no supplemental material. I want my students to have access to all materials to help them become successful.

My Project

AP Government requires hard work and dedication. It is a difficult class and covers tons of material in a short amount of time. Since my students are struggling readers, these review books will help by covering the same material in a more practical matter.

Also, with the current edition of AMSCO AP Government and Politics review book, my students will have access to the most up to date information for our course and will give them a fair chance in passing the AP exam.

My students will extremely benefit with this additional material and will have a better chance understanding in depth the scope of government and their role in government. Please help support low-income black and brown students!
