My Students

I work in West Philadelphia where the families have very limited resources to help support their children's literacy needs. Recently, I had the chance to revitalize the school library. For years, this space has not been used, and our students have been thrilled to experience a transformed space for learning, listening, and reading.

Students at our school come to class without pencils, paper, and folders, and many times arrive without having eaten breakfast.

We are a K-8 school with approximately 800 students.

The students I teach are excited to learn and happy to be a part of our school community. However, materials and supplies are almost non-existent and need to be purchased by the teachers. Students here love to read and need all the support they can get.

My Project

It’s so important for our students to continue to read on their own and with enjoyable books that they love. With this new exciting library full of fiction and non-fiction books my students will have the chance to enjoy a variety of literature from so many authors and illustrators. This new library will provide a chance for my scholars to sit down and read a story of their own choosing to enjoy and take pleasure in. With your help and support, they will love delving into these new novels and jumping into books to improve their literacy levels as they learn and achieve educational success!
