My Project

The first novel my seventh graders read every year is The Giver. This is often their introduction to dystopian fiction and they continually pepper me with questions about what is really going on. I enjoy these questions and the anticipation that builds as the story goes on. I give nothing away as I want them to experience the confusion, anticipation and wonder as they occur.

Over the years our books have taken a beating and some have gone missing completely.

With these new books all of my students will have a copy in their hands without having to wait for access to a class copy. We will also be able to make sure everyone can have the same edition of the book while we read. This will help my students better follow along as we read in class as well as discuss questions about specific passages without searching for them in a different edition of the book.
