This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a second-grade teacher in the city of Chicago. There are many challenges that face my students each day. My students come from diverse backgrounds and are from low-income families. The majority of our families fall below the poverty level.
Despite all of this, I am lucky to be working with a group of students who are eager and motivated to learn.
I am looking to boost my students' reading confidence. One way I believe I can do this is through decodable readers. These will relate directly to our phonics instruction which will help bridge the gap between knowing sounds and knowing words.
The eagerness of my students motivates me to find new ways to improve instruction. The pride and excitement on their faces as they are growing as learners are very rewarding.
