My Project
Many high school students groan when they hear the word “nonfiction.” They expect dry, dense texts with little relevance to their lives. But it doesn’t have to be that way! In my AP Language and Composition class specifically, we focus on analyzing how nonfiction writers use language to inform, persuade, and inspire. There’s no better way to learn this than through powerful texts that reflect the world around them!
With your support, I hope to build a classroom library of engaging, relevant nonfiction books written by diverse authors.
Well-known and engaging books like Just Mercy, The Warmth of Other Suns, and Born a Crime help students see connections between language, identity, justice, and power. These texts open up rich discussions, deepen writing skills, and help students grow as critical thinkers.
Right now, I don’t have enough of these kinds of books on hand. With your help, I can offer my students access to books that matter. These are stories that will stick with them, challenge them, and help them become better readers, writers, and people!
Thank you for supporting the love of reading in my classroom!
